:: To honour the Blessed Apostle St. Paul
11/9/2008
Pope Benedict XVI has offered the universal Church a special gift of indulgences on the 2000th anniversary of the birth of St. Paul, to honour the Blessed Apostle by encouraging good deeds and exalting the spiritual life among the faithful, thereby smoothing the way towards inner purification. In the Archdiocese of Vancouver, Archbishop Raymond Roussin has decreed that the faithful may benefit from the Plenary Indulgence if, after sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayers for the Supreme Pontiff’s intentions, and in a state of detachment from any inclination to sin, they take part in a sacred function or public pious exercise in honour of St. Paul, on one of the following feast days: Dedication of the Roman Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul (November 18, 2008); Conversion of Paul (January 25, 2009); Solemnity of Peter and Paul, Apostles (June 29, 2009) and at one of the following churches: St. Paul’s Parish Churches (North Vancouver, Richmond or Vancouver), Holy Rosary Cathedral (Vancouver) and Westminster Abbey (Mission). The faithful who are prevented by illness or other legitimate and important cause from participating in these events may obtain the indulgence by joining spiritually in the jubilee celebration in honour of the Apostle, providing they intend to fulfill the usual conditions as soon as possible, are in a state of detachment from inclination to sin, and offer their prayers and sufferings to God for Christian unity.

:: A BRICK FOR GOD’S HOUSE
10/19/2008
On behalf of Fr. Peter and PPC, we wish to thank all of you, our parishioners, for your prayers and continued support to our building project which is now well underway. As has been mentioned before, the parish needs an additional $2.5 million dollars to completely finance our project. No one can disagree that this is a huge amount of money but if divided amongst all registered family parishioners, the amount may not be too Herculean after all. It comes to around $2,000 per family. We are humbly asking every family to seriously consider making a pledge for this amount, payable over a period of one or two years. Spread over 24 months, this will amount to around $ 20 a week. ($19.24 to be exact). Now, more than ever, our parish needs your unconditional support and your sacrificial assistance is welcomed with heartfelt thanks and profound gratitude. Together, we can build this wonderful house of God and you and your family will be a part of it. Your prayer and support, coupled with your sacrifice and dedication, will leave a lasting legacy that will be entrenched in the history of our parish. Your decision today will not only impact our project, but also the generations that will come after us. In the midst of crisis and uncertainties, we need to remember that God will always be there … We just need to find Him and trust in Him. United as one, we are confident that we will see not only the fruit of our labor, but also the aura of contentment that YOU indeed made a difference. We will accept various methods of payments like; post dated cheques, credit cards or automatic withdrawals, whatever is convenient for you. Pledge forms and other details will be made available in the coming weeks. What could be a better way to show and express thanksgiving to our Lord who continue to shower us with many blessings than for us to give and share and receive not only two folds and ten folds but a hundred folds in return, This weekend and these coming weeks, please pray for discernment, that like Blessed Virgin Mary, we may be able to say yes without fear. Once again, we thank you for your generosity. Co-chairpersons of St. Joseph’s Parish Arcie Lim & Paul Bui
